Released just in time for Halloween, IAMDOOMED’s latest EP ‘Vampires’ is the perfect soundtrack to get you in the spooky mood. The four track release has everything from techy steppers, to wobbly basslines, to minimal deep rollers. Curating a journey through haunting vocals and industrial soundscapes, the ‘Vampires’ EP twists into a darker flavour of drum and bass, with references to all things eerie and mysterious.
Opening the release is the title track ‘Vampires’, with a drawn out, ominous intro and gradual build up, it’s the perfect track for your Halloween party. This track increases the intensity before dropping hard into a techy stepper sound. The bouncy bassline hits hard and resonates through with a strong techno influence. Vintage style cinematic vocals add a layer of quirky darkness to the track, a sinister warning that the vampires are coming.
Following on from ‘Vampires’ is ‘Hypnosis’, a true vibey roller with a touch of the ghostly feels. The hypnotic sounds of the intro morph into a disorienting, creepy melody, that does feel like some dark entity is drawing you under their spell. The track then has a quick switch, dropping into a heavy one-note bassline that’s guaranteed to make you skank out.
The third track on the EP, ‘Bad Dream’, is a punchy higher energy track with a hard hitting stepper rhythm and heavy techno influence. The distorted 808 bassline weaves its way through the track, providing a heavy continuity and gnarled backdrop. Punching through the wavey bass is rhythmic percussion and cowbell, perfectly accentuating and complimenting the grinding industrial sounds of the breakdown.
Rounding out the EP is ‘Poltergeist’ feat. Skore, a moody track with a resonant, wobbly bassline. The haunting intro builds into a moody drop, followed up quick by a minimal, steppy beat. The track hits on a deeper flavour, providing weight and depth as the last track on the EP, and taking the creepy darkness up a level.
The ‘Vampires’ EP truly captures the spirit of Halloween. Layering the unique production skills of IAMDOOMED with unnerving supernatural elements has created something spine tinglingly enticing and just the thing to get the vampires and ghosts rising from the shadows and returning to the dance floor.
